Troopers Prepare for Fourth of July
SOUTH CHARLESTON - Troopers are gearing up for the Fourth of July holiday by preparing to increase patrols on the State’s highways in an increased effort to help keep holiday travelers safe. The West Virginia State Police, as part of an ongoing commitment to Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), will increase patrols and crackdown on traffic violations over the Fourth of July holiday. The summer season brings with it an increase in the volume of traffic and construction projects. Friday, July 4th through Monday, July 6th mark the targeted period of the national campaign.
“The West Virginia State Police will be increasing patrols and visibility in an effort to curb aggressive and impaired driving,” said Colonel Howard E. Hill, Jr., Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police. “The highways of West Virginia are going to be busy with holiday travelers and we will strive to make sure their Fourth of July holiday is as safe as possible.”
Last year there were 2 people killed on the State’s highways in separate crashes over the Fourth of July period. One of the fatal crashes involved alcohol and drugs. The other fatal crash involved an ATV and both fatal crashes were speed related.
Operation C.A.R.E. is a multi-agency, national effort to reduce the number of traffic crashes on the nation’s roads through strict traffic enforcement.
