53rd West Virginia State Police Cadet Class to Begin

INSTITUTE – On Monday, September 29, 2003, Governor Bob Wise swore in the West Virginia State Police 53rd Cadet Class at the West Virginia State Police Academy in Institute.

“This new class is yet another step toward increasing the number of Troopers in the State Police to full capacity,” said Colonel Howard E. Hill, Jr., Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police. “Manpower has consistently been a concern over the past few years. The addition of this class will undoubtedly play a critical role in helping to alleviate the manpower situation.”

If all 58 Cadets graduate in April 2004, only five uniformed vacancies will exist. The total force of the West Virginia State Police will consist of 661 Troopers.

The Cadets will spend twenty-eight weeks at the Academy and will receive 1415 hours of training in and out of the classroom. Topics such as criminal & traffic law, self-defense, drug identification and DUI training will be a part of the curriculum. Graduation will be on April 9, 2004.

A swearing in ceremony for the 53rd Cadet Class was held at 9:30am at the West Virginia State Police Academy in Institute.
