“State Troopers for the WV Needy” Campaign Set to Begin
SOUTH CHARLESTON – The 15th annual “State Troopers for the WV Needy” campaign is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 10, 2004. The yearly event coincides with the Salvation Army’s “Kettle Kick-Off”. The campaign is part of a joint effort to provide the less fortunate citizens of West Virginia an opportunity to have a joyful holiday season.
“The holiday season is a time of sharing and giving thanks for our many blessings”, said Colonel Howard E. Hill, Jr., Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police. “The combined effort of the public, the State Police and the Salvation Army has always been, and will continue to be, a very productive campaign in assisting the citizens of West Virginia in their time of need.”
During the 30-day drive, Salvation Army barrels will be available to the public in every State Police detachment in the state. West Virginians are asked to donate new toys and non-perishable canned food items, which will be collected by volunteers of the Salvation Army and distributed to needy families. Anyone in need this holiday season should contact his or her local Salvation Army office to be placed on the distribution list.
