Child Abduction

South Charleston, West Virginia – On February 4, 2009, between the hours of 10:30pm and 11:00pm, Tpr. D. C. Moore of the Logan Detachment of the West Virginia State Police received a complaint of child abduction. It was alleged that Ms. Kathy Jo Mitchell, the noncustodial parent, abducted her two children from Ms. Dreama Lee, the legal guardian. The abduction occurred at the residence of Ms. Lee in Mill Creek, West Virginia.

Tpr. D. C. Moore entered the children and Ms. Mitchell into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. A nationwide BOLO was also issued. On February 6, 2009, Sgt. B. E. Guthrie of the Logan Detachment received information concerning the possible location of Ms. Mitchell in Arkansas.

On February 7, 2009, the Brinkley Police Department in Arkansas arrested Ms. Mitchell and recovered the children. The children have since been returned to Ms. Lee. Ms. Mitchell is awaiting extradition to West Virginia.
