Trooper Shot From Ambush
May 11, 2003


Point Pleasant - A West Virginia State Trooper was wounded by gunfire as he approached the scene of an apparent domestic call in Mason County. Senior Trooper F. E. Holcomb, 29, of the Point Pleasant Detachment along with members of the Mason County Sheriff's Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:48 AM this date.

As the officers approached the door to the residence located at 2201 Ripley Road in Point Pleasant a shot was fired from outside the residence striking Senior Trooper Holcomb in the upper thigh. Senior trooper Holcomb was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington where he underwent surgery for the gunshot wound. He is recovering at this time.

Other units were dispatched to the scene immediately after Trooper Holcomb was wounded and David Selby who resides at the rsidence was captured shortly afterwards by State Troopers and Mason County Deputies in the nearby woods. Mr. Selby, 49, was charged with Malicious Wounding of the trooper and is currently incarcerated in the Mason County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Also charged in the incident was Kathy Selby, 46, wife of the accused. She was charged with Obstruction of Officers and is currently being held in the Mason County Jail pending an appearance before a Mason County Magistrate.

The incident is still currently under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
