State Police Open New Detachment in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN – The West Virginia State Police unveiled a new detachment in Morgantown on Thursday, August 26, 2004. The ceremony will began at 1:00pm at the new site, located at 3453 Monongaleha Blvd., Morgantown, WV 26505. Governor Bob Wise, Secretary Christine F. Morris of Military Affairs and Public Safety and Colonel Howard E. Hill, Jr., Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police, spoke.

The new detachment is built on property that has been owned by the State Police since 1959. The last permanent detachment was constructed on this site in 1959 and served as the detachment until the mid 1990’s. Until funding was established for a new state of the art facility, the detachment was temporarily housed in leased office space in Westover. The new facility encompasses over 11,000 square feet of space and was designed by the architectural firm, McKinley and Associates of Wheeling. The general contractor was Tmaro Corporation of Bridgeport, WV.

“We are very pleased to announce the grand opening of the new detachment in Morgantown,” said Colonel Hill. “The design, size and configuration will give the Troopers a first class facility from which to serve the public.” The facility will house the nineteen Troopers currently assigned to Morgantown and is designed to accommodate up to 32 Troopers and civilian staff. The office includes rooms specifically designed for and dedicated to prisoner processing, witness interviews training and storage. The total cost for the structure was $1,870,000.
