State Police to Participate in “Read to Me” Day
SOUTH CHARLESTON –Thursday, November 13, 2003, has been designated as West Virginia “Read to Me” Day. The primary goal of the event is to allow every child from day care through elementary school a chance to be read to for at least 20 minutes.
The West Virginia State Police is continuing its efforts to accomplish this goal by providing both uniform and non-uniform personnel to schools across the state. State Police personnel are prepared to read to numerous schools statewide.
“This is a wonderful program for the State Police to interact with the community,” said Colonel Howard E. Hill, Jr., Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police. “In the small amount of time it takes to read to a child, we can leave a positive impression that can last a lifetime.”
This year approximately 96 State Police employees will be reading to numerous schools statewide.
