Area Children Get to “Shop with a Cop”

SOUTH CHARLESTON – For the tenth year, the West Virginia State Police, the Charleston Police Department, the West Virginia Air National Military Police and Catenary Coal Company will participate in the “Shop with a Cop” program.

Each year, Catenary Coal, a subsidiary of Arch Coal, generously provides funding for the “Shop with a Cop” program. The company lends its support to the shopping spree for underprivileged children from Sharon-Dawes Elementary School in the Cabin Creek area. This year 31 children will be participating and Catenary Coal will provide each child with $225 to spend.

At 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2006, each child will be paired with a police officer that will assist in keeping track of the purchased items during the Christmas shopping spree at the Toys-R-Us in South Charleston. The officers will use calculators to keep the totals so each child utilizes his/her spending allotment.

Media representatives are encouraged to attend.
