Community Notification/Education Program
Concerning Registered Sex Offenders Residing In Kanawha County

PLACE: WV Rehabilitation Center, Recreation Building Auditorium, Institute, WV

State statute §15-12-5 allows the prosecuting attorney and the state police to conduct a community notification/education program in the county of residence of any person who is required to register for life.

CONTENT OF MEETING: This is an educational program designed to educate the public on the following topics: general characteristics and behaviors of sex offenders, information on the law and what roles citizens can play in making their communities safer, safety strategies for adults and children and ways to talk with your child about offenders. Victim advocates will be available to discuss concerns and services for the victims of these crimes. We will be releasing the names and pictures of the registered sex offenders in Kanawha County who must register for life. Lifetime registration is - anyone who has been convicted of a sexually violent offense - anyone with one or more prior qualifying convictions - anyone convicted of a qualifying offense and the victim was a minor - anyone convicted of a qualifying offense and the court finds that the offense involved multiple victims or multiple offenses and anyone determined by the court to be a sexually violent predator. This meeting may be considered inappropriate for children under the age of 13.
