Tours

Q:    Who do I contact about a tour of the State Police Academy?
A:    Academy tour requests are processed by the Assistant Director of Training, call 766-2600.

Q.    How many people can go on tour at one time?
A.    The staff prefers that the groups are no larger than 50, at a time.

Q.    How long does a tour last?
A.    Generally, 1 1/2 hours, depending on the amount of questions.

Q.    What grade level is considered for tours?
A.    The staff accepts tours for school children at the first grade level and up.



Training

Q.    How may I apply to the academy for training?
A.    You must be employed first by a police agency within the state.

Q.    If I am a certified police officer from another state, can transfer my
        certification  to West Virginia, and by pass the training?
A.    Not at the present time, out of state certification is not recognized. Certification for out of state law enforcement officers,
        may be be obtained under the Equivalent Certification Provision §149-2-14.

Q.    May I leave the academy during training in the evenings?
A.    No, the training requires that you remain at the training facility, except for weekends.
